Spellbook and Pandora's box Heroes 3

Updated: Jan 9, 2024

Besides the treasure chest, I have another two small embroidered funart artifacts. Spellbook and Pandora's Box, iconic artifacts from Heroes of Might and Magic III. If you could see the cover more or less, then the Pandora's box is more difficult. – There are no highres pictures or original sketches in the public domain, all authors of similar funarts usually used their own imagination, most often they just made stars on the faces.

It was interesting for me to create six different pictures in the game style for each face. Then, to the best of my abilities at the time, I converted them into pixel art. I chose the threads that were at hand and adjusted my pattern palette to their colors. The pattern is not very optimized, you can freely reduce the number of colors. According to the first idea, I planned to add glass beads, but then I forgot about it :)

Instead of a regular patterns, for clarity I usually keep a set of pictures with each color highlighted, and then I throw this bunch of files to my smartphone. This makes it much easier to embroider.

I am sharing here the patterns for the Treasure Chest, Pandora's box and Spellbook. How to correctly cut plastic canvas and sew the edges are described in detail in the tutorial about the plastic house.

Рattern for the Treasure Chest

Only yellow, beige and three shades of red are needed for the chest

To distinguish between dark and medium reds, they are saved separately:

Рattern for the Pandora's box

The side of the square is 31 cells, all the files for each color are in the pandora_box.rar archive (the 13th one was not needed, don't look for it :) )

Рattern for the Spellbook

I made the cover not from plastic canvas, but from vinyl one. I do not recommend it, this material is not convenient for small item, it crumbles at the edges, and the weaving is slightly skewed. It is better to take any standard Aida type canvas and additionally seal it with some thermo-adhesive lining fabric.
